The Harris family would like to thank those who supported our new completion the MAXXIS “King of the Rim”

We eventually had twenty cars compete throughout the day in the two comps. The park is very unforgiving if you chose the wrong line and she does come back to bite many a driver who does not take her seriously.

I’m sure there will be a lot of fantastic pictures coming through as it was a great couple of days 4x4 driving.

Highs and lows all comps have to deal with them and it was very disappointing to find out at 11pm Friday night someone had driven the ridge tracks destroying the bunting the boys had spent two days setting up for the comp tracks. To combat this problem at the second round in November we will be looking at using GPS’s and spotters to show the comp tracks.

Expecting at least one car through the revamped play area every fifteen minutes the park played havoc with that timing and that was a little disappointing for the spectators.

Was the course too hard?

We had at least four of the big cars complete the course so we feel to reach the target “King of the Rim” the track was fine. Speaking to a couple of the retired crews it seems the constant ware and tare of this type of driving caught up with a couple of them rather than the tracks themselves.  We may shorten the run next time to cater for spectator’s enjoyment as viewing points are limited at this type of speed event.

With a number of the crews making running repairs at their campsites and a couple still trying to get 2Evil back to base after losing a wheel at the back of the property it was decided to make the night runs a semi social event. I was told having Cal’s creek setup under lighting was a brilliant night drive.

The local SES teams were fantastic. Because of their excellent marshalling with parking and spectator directions it flowed very smoothly at the entry office and we had no problems during the day with spectators or campers getting in the way of any of the competitors. I believe their selection of food at their canteen was also excellent. We hope they will be available for the second round and our numbers will increase so we can support them in return.

We suggest if you are planning to come out to the second round you need to look at booking a campsite now. Registrations are online for interested competitors. Due to car trailer limited sites site one, two and possibly three will be reserved for competitors their crews, nominated cars and immediate family only.

Kareen will have the final score listed on our website this week. The family have already discussed additional ways to improve the event so check our website for any changes.

Thanks again for a great weekend everyone.

Cutting in new 4x4 tracks has always been a priority and during the past two weeks Brenden, Callum and our new staff member Clint have been working to create new tracks through the park but it all takes time, energy and expense to reach final goals.

Organising any new event especially something like the King of the Rim where we are increasing the area used throughout the park is extremely difficult to predict. We are trying to increase enjoyment not only for the 4x4 drivers but also for the spectators wanting to view an event.

Knowing numbers is a major part of organising any event. We know we have enough committed competitors to make this inaugural event a success. Entries will remain open but it helps enormously if we know numbers before Friday so the paperwork can be printed.

How many spectators will turn up we cannot predict but we are expanding the parking for spectators on the right hand side of the 2x2 entry road. We will have marshals directing people to parking areas.

Kareen is a professional events coordinator with years of experience and if people check out our website occasionally they will find out who our official sponsors are, Offroad Cartel Co are one of them. We have a canteen run by the SES, Fairy floss, balloons and rides for the kids along with a couple of exhibitors.

There will be no private driving Friday or Saturday during the running of the event. Camping is limited at this event so if you intend camping please contact us immediately. We would hate to disappoint anyone

The park will be open Sunday for normal driving.
